The summer starts to wind down a little, although up here in the north of the country the light lasts longer into the evening and changes to more golden than yellow. The trees won't change colour until the first frosts, but the harvested fields are still golden in sunshine, before ploughing begins.

Children are back at the village school, some for the first time. It's a small school and its play area is at the bottom of my garden so the day is punctuated by regular sounds of play. On the road outside, our friend, Maurice (below) takes his daily
