Astronauts return to Earth after being stranded in space

AMERICAN astronaut FRANK RUBIO is back home after being stuck in space for more than a year. Frank (47) and Russian cosmonauts SERGEI PROKOPYEV (48) and DMITRY PETELIN (40) landed in Kazakhstan last month after spending 371 days in space.

The trio travelled to the International Space Station (ISS) in September 2022 and were set to return in March this year, but they were left stranded when their return capsule was damaged while docking at the ISS.

Because the capsule could not be repaired in space, it returned to Earth without crew. A new rover could only be sent to collect them in September this year.

Frank, who was a doctor in the military before becoming an astronaut, was supposed to spend 180 days at the ISS and ended up being there for an extra 191 days.
