WE TALK ABOUT James Webb’s look at Jupiter
ALTHOUGH the James Webb Telescope was launched only a few months ago, it has already managed to wow us with some amazing images of outer space. Now American space agency Nasa has released high-definition pictures of Jupiter that were snapped by the telescope.
“We’ve never seen Jupiter like this. It’s all quite incredible,” says Imke de Pater, an astronomer from California in America.
The precise images show the planet’s faint rings, as well as its moons, Amalthea and Adrastea. “It’s really remarkable that we can see details on Jupiter together with its rings, tiny satellites and even galaxies in one image. To be honest, we hadn’t really expected it to be this good,” Imke says.
The images were taken with the telescope’s near-infrared camera, which can detect light from the earliest stars and galaxies. Humans can’t see infrared light, so special filters were added to the images to reveal Jupiter’s details. This also managed to give scientists a view of
