TESTED 2018 Murvi Morocco XL
2018 MURVI MOROCCO XL
Six years ago, almost on a whim, we decided to buy our very first ’van to travel around Europe in. Nick was approaching 55 and I was almost 50.
We love hiking in the mountains, travel and learning about other cultures, and our question was: could we continue to enjoy these from the base of a campervan?
THE ONE AND ONLY
We collected our first (and so far, only) ’van in October 2018 from Murvi in Devon; she's called BezzaG (after my parents, Beryl and Gordon), and is a Murvi Morocco XL, a Fiat Ducato conversion. We needed the ’van to be a base primarily for our hiking activities, so our priorities centred around this:
• The best off-grid capability that could be practically achieved • Space for relaxed living (so many layouts seem cramped) and for storage for our hiking and camping gear. For us this meant no fixed beds • The ’van needed to be as compact as possible, since we were planning to access country roads to reach the trailheads for our walks • An understated, discreet-looking vehicle, for off-grid park-ups, and to avoid unwanted attention when left in the middle of nowhere • The interior needs to be comfortable, as, whilst we love to be outdoors, lots of places • It needs a Euro 6 engine but we were nervous about spending so much money for anything secondhand, with only limited warranties
