‘they pose a risk to motorists’ City to crack down on beggars

The eThekwini municipality will be clamping down on street beggars by enforcing their Nuisances and Behaviour in Public By-law.

This is according to their recent Weekly Bulletin, in which deputy mayor Zandile Myeni, said motorists should report begging.

In the bulletin, she said: “Street begging does not only pose a risk to motorists but is also against the city’s by-laws. Once street beggars are reported, social workers will be engaged to facilitate the care and safety of the vulnerable children.
