I first came to this show in the late 1980s when the event was on a different site, everyone thought I was mad driving over in my late-type Montego estate car which was an ideal cruiser, and in fact it was my first trip to the continent since 1972! How my life was about to change, for it was an adventure I will never forget. I was made very welcome and made lots of friends who I would see as time went on at the Great Dorset Steam Fair and other high-profile events such as the Pickering Rally and even the Bishops Castle Rally in Shropshire; it was high adventure at the time!
Since those heady days the event has grown bigger and bigger and is always a pleasure to visit, the last time I came here was with ‘Badger’ in 2017. In fact like all rallies one looks back and reflects particularly, if you are into these events for the long haul and say to yourself that things were better in the UK 1970-80s rally scene.
