Tribute to former Churnet Valley driver and traction inspector Terry Essery

IT was with great sadness that we learned in August of the death ofTerry Essery, having just marked his 90th birthday.

Terry was one of the few remaining gentlemen of the BR steam era, who could mix practical skills with his gift of recounting stories which never failed to make you laugh but more importantly, knowing Terry, you could quite literally imagine the predicament he would find himself in.

Terry was able to mix the theoretical with the practical, which was put to good use in his book, Steam
