If I am diagnosed with Parkinson’s should I continue to ride a motorcycle

In Old Bike Australasia Issue 73 I wrote a Letter to the Editor titled, “How to Throttle Parkinson’s Disease” (henceforth PD or Parkinson’s). In it I extolled the benefit for riders with Parkinson’s of using a throttle lock when on country runs, to ease the strain of holding the throttle open for long periods. That was back in 2018. Five years later my PD symptoms have gotten worse, to the extent that I must now ask myself a critically important question - should I continue to ride a motorcycle? As we age, ultimately every motorcyclist must ask themselves this question, not just those with PD, but having Parkinson’s brings the decision-making process forward.
