THE police are adamant that the implementation of the five-year National Rural Safety Strategy (NRSS) in urban and rural areas will help combat farm attacks.
In October 2021, General Khehla John Sitole, the national commissioner of the SAPS, engaged with Agri SA, TLU SA and AfriForum to develop a plan on rural safety.
At the meeting, they formed national and local Joint Rural Safety Command Centres. The centres are responsible for implementing the operational plan of the rural safety strategy with the ultimate objective of reducing crime in rural areas.
