DOG DO-DO DNA
In the French town of Béziers, local mayor, Robert Ménard, has launched an initiative in hopes to reduce the amount of dog poop on the streets. Pet owners must carry a genetic passport for their pooch during walks with local council workers collecting and analysing excrement DNA to identify poop-perpetrators. Ménard said, “We pick up more than 1,000 messes a month, sometimes a lot more, just in the town centre. It just cannot go on.” Owners found guilty of not cleaning up after their canine will receive a $200 fine with a smaller penalty for those who fail to have their pooch passport on them. A
