Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5

Samsung’s latest folding phone isn’t hugely different to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold4 (see issue 337, p74) – but then it’s not intended as a direct upgrade. It’s more a fresh attempt at winning over smartphone shoppers who haven’t been persuaded to try the new format. And there’s no doubt that the Fold5 is Samsung’s most tempting foldable yet.

That starts with an updated design. The Z Fold5 comes in three colours: Icy Blue, Cream or Phantom Black. The chassis is thinner than the Z Fold4, measuring only 13.4mm thick when closed, compared to 15.8mm for the previous model.

This has much to do with a new streamlined hinge, which enables the phone to fold up completely, with no gap between the two
