Custard apples

ustard apples are a sweet sub-tropical fruit that was originally native to South America but) and the cherimoya (). The main varieties grown here are the Pinks Mammoth and the African Pride, both of which have a pale-green skin and soft, sweet flesh with brown seeds. Custard apples are best enjoyed during the colder months, but as new varieties are being developed, the season is extending into spring and early summer. When choosing your custard apple, look for fruit that is pale green and firm, just giving slightly to the touch. Once the skin is purple or black, the fruit is past its best. Store your ripe custard apple in the fridge for two to three days for a deliciously creamy, cool and sweet taste.
