MAKING TRACKS

The sun was setting in the west, dropping down over a beautiful little lake called Nela. Elize and I were sitting on the eastern bank thereof, under a waterberry tree which serves as a viewpoint for visitors to Lagoa Nela's 4x4 campsite.

“They are getting closer to us now,” I said. A pod of hippo, at least twenty of them, were approaching us to investigate the activity on shore. Not many people stay here, and hippos are inquisitive by nature.

We were excited to be back at Lagoa Nela, three years after our first visit. This time we were driving all the 4x4 routes and visiting the newly-designed campsites in the Maputo National Park.
