01 HOW DO I FUEL A LONG RIDE?
When you’re preparing to do a sportive or multiple-day event, ensuring you plan your food intake is key. You’ll want to know where the feed stations are along the route, but perhaps more importantly, what kind of food those stations are going to provide. Some events will give that information beforehand so that you can fuel as efficiently as possible, so make sure you take the time to find out if possible.
Practise beforehand
If the food provided at feed stations is something that you don’t normally eat, it’s a good idea to practise with that food during training, to allow your gut to become accustomed beforehand. Rice-based foods are useful for long or multiple-day events. This is because rice is easy to digest, a good source of carbohydrate and, because it’s is cooked with water, it’s a good fluid provider as well.
Prep is paramount
If you’re having to provide the food yourself for your event, planning and preparation is paramount. Using a
