LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Green in Gippsland

Here is a small selection of the bikes (above & right) in the recent display at the Gippsland Vehicle Collection, in Maffra, Victoria. The collection is a rotating display which is open to the public Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, every day during school holidays and on public holidays. It houses cars, motorcycles, trucks and memorabilia. The Kawasakis in these photos are part of my collection totalling over fifty bikes.

The Longford fiasco

Re the story on the collapse of the proposed Longford Grand Prix Expo: “The promoter disappeared with a large state government cheque.” I find that inconceivable. I ran community events for 13 years on behalf of our District Council sourcing funding from a variety of agencies. There were accountability checks everywhere. A state government department just hands over a “cheque”? What on earth is a cheque these days anyway? I’m sure the club knows the questionsbound to be an events co-ordinator employed by councils in your area that would be happy to advise on promotional aspects. After all the event brings money into the community. Congratulations to the volunteers who shouldered the load and showcased a successful Longford Motorama.
