Almost 1000 ticket offices could close

ALMOST 1000 ticket offices could close under plans launched on July 5.

Thirteen operators controlled by the Department for Transport began a three-week consultation on July 5, which could see 974 ticket offices closed across the country. This does not affect stations managed by Transport for London, Transport for Wales, ScotRail or Merseyrail.

Ticket offices at various locations including London Euston, London Paddington, Reading, Glasgow Central, Manchester Piccadilly and Bristol Temple Meads could all close under the plans, which are subject to a public consultation that closes on July 26.

Jacqueline Starr, Rail Delivery Group chief executive, said: “The ways our customers buy tickets has changed and it’s time for the railway to change with them.
