Joining the Foulds

When Sakari Oramo (above) arrived from Helsinki to be chief conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 1998, ten years later at the end of his tenure. ‘John Foulds, Constant Lambert, Frank Bridge and so on are all great composers in their own right. I would say that Foulds, in particular, has sprung up the league table of British composers in the last five years.’
