    TRANSMISSION FOR CUMMINS 4BT ENGINE SWAP INTO CHEVROLET TRUCK

    Q: I have a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 Z71 with Vortec 5.7-liter V-8 engine and I want to install a Cummins 4BT engine in its place. Would the TH700-R4 (MD8) gearbox currently in the truck work with this engine or do I need an adapter to match these together? Can you recommend another transmission I might use to complete this conversion that might be stronger?

    A: Your 700-R4 will work behind the Cummins engine but you will need a bellhousing-to-engine adapter for the correct fitment. Performance Automotive and Transmission
