UK architects report an increase in project cancellations

Architects across Britain have reported a significant increase in projects being delayed or abandoned, due to planning permission setbacks. The findings, part of RIBA’s Future Trends survey for April 2023, revealed that 22% of architectural practices reported projects being cancelled altogether in the previous three months, compared to 7% for the same period in 2021. 47% of those surveyed said they had projects that had been delayed by six months or more.

In the report, they also revealed that inflation and higher interest rates are increasing the capital costs
