Landfill management in bid to solve space crisis

Innovation challenge

SOUTH Africa is running out of landfill space and in an attempt to alleviate the problem, one of the largest landfill sites in KwaZulu-Natal is recycling and repurposing waste.

A landfill site is an area of land that is used to dump rubbish, either directly on the ground or by filling an unwanted hole in the ground.

According to Statistics South Africa, about 90% of the 122 million tons of waste produced is sent to landfills each year. Statistics
