Key to longevity

Overall difficulty rating

“I t’s had one owner from new and we’ve serviced it every 10,000 miles,” comments Mark Shipman at AES near York as we look around the 2008 Toyota Avensis seen here that has over 320,000 miles on its odometer and is in use almost every day of the week, earning a living as a taxi. Whilst Mark explains that the vehicle has had a new battery and has its brake fluid and coolant routinely changed, so nothing has been neglected, it’s clear the key to its longevity is routine servicing.

We were also surprised by how straightforward all of the servicing jobs are on this vehicle. Even the fuel filter, which is hidden in the nearside rear corner of the engine bay, isn’t too much of a headache. And whilst accessing the cabin filter requires the glovebox to be removed, there’s only one screw to undo.

We’re assuming our photographs are a record of the 32ndservice for this Avensis, which considering it averages a little over 21,000 miles a year, probably means it has had its oil and filters changed every six months.
