Produced between 2010 and 2015, the third generation of the Kia Sportage transformed what was previously regarded as an off-road vehicle into a stylish SUV for the masses. However, its specification still kept 4x4 fans happy, especially the model we are servicing, which includes all-wheel drive, a sixspeed manual gearbox and a 134bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine (there was also a 181bhp diesel). Underneath the all-steel bodywork, there’s a relatively simple layout of mechanical components with easy access to change the oils for the engine, gearbox, transfer box and rear differential. The cabin filter couldn’t be easier to replace, hidden behind the glovebox, whereas the fuel filter is concealed behind the ECU and battery!
Regular readers of CM will no doubt recognise the Sportage in our photos. It was a project vehicle for the magazine from the August 2022 issue onwards. This Service Bay squeezes a lot of information in, but if you need to know more about the Sportage, follow the project series in the back issues.
