EACH culture in the world has its own languages, customs, beliefs, and many other defining characteristics unique to each of them. When these different cultures meet, their music styles can also come together, to make something new and exciting. This is what happened in America with the musical style known as jazz.
Jazz is an original style of American which came into being when European music merged with the music brought to America by slaves from Africa. These men and women who were made to work in southern plantations brought with them a history of African music, with its own rhythms, melodies and structures.
