ONE OF THE LANDSCAPES in my locality that inspires me is the flat landscape of the Aylesbury Vale, which I can look down upon from various points, such as Coombe Hill. I’m not as much interested in painting a faithful representation of this view, but I am drawn to the shapes this vale of fields and hedgerows gives me as a starting point. I try to find a meeting point between specific observable views, and my equal interest in more open-ended, abstract and even arbitrary explorations of colour and line, and the contrasting of sharp and soft edges.
