‘My ambition is to carry on working until nobody wants me any more!’

My message to the world is to seize the day, make the most of every opportunity because you never know when it might end! I’m 73 years old, I think I’m in pretty good shape and have a young soul but you don’t know what is round the corner, do you? Look at my. One minute she’s in rehearsals for her next project, the next she’s suffered a fall and broken her leg, things are happening on the operating table and she is no longer with us. I was able to speak to her before the operation but it was still the most terrible shock to lose her. But I try to be positive. When I’m going out for the night, I say, ‘Come on, Ruth, I’m going to a birthday party and you’re coming with me,’ and off we go!
