BUILDING A FODEN SIX-WHEELER Part 3

At the end of my last instalment I mentioned that the wagon would be moving to a new home, this happened September 2021, so there’s still a fair bit to cover to bring progress to where we are now. Back before the move I had been working on the steering box and fitted it as the last boiler mount but still needed to work on the internals. To do this I had to machine one final part on the actual box, this was the thread for the top retaining bush. I set the steering box up on the CNC machined on the boss, drilled through and machined out the bore to then thread mill the correct thread in place. Now this was done I could use this as a gauge for when I screw-cut the mating fitting on the lathe.

I decided to start with the lower bearing block for the steering box and work back to make sure all the shaft and other parts were correct to get minimal play. As the full-size wagon’s box was fitted I was unable to look at much of it in detail but gained some images online and
