The next components to make were the spring carrier plates for the rear axle. I gained a lot of information for these from the drawings that I had got hold of from the archives, this was then backed up by the dimensions I was able to take from the full-size wagon. I drew up the main parts for the plates on the CAD and sent the drawings away for laser-cut components. Once arrived I fabricated the plates, my own welding this time, you can probably tell! Then I machined in the clearances required to allow for the movement of the springs.
At this point I decided to continue with fabricating the main chassis before starting anything else, at the end of the day even a boiler isn’t much good without a chassis. Next on the list were the trailing arm adjuster brackets. These were again fabricated from a mixture of turned and milled components and also laser cut and formed parts. And then all welded together and dressed up
Upon trial fitting it became clear that I would need a custom washer for the bolts as they came through the rail on the taper section and would pull to
