Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis launches bid for 2024 GOP presidential nomination
WASHINGTON — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis officially entered the race for the Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday — a diminished figure in his party after a steady fall in polls in recent months, but still the top rival to former President Donald Trump.
The governor announced his White House bid on Twitter after filing his intentions earlier in the day with the Federal Election Commission.
“I’m running for president to lead our Great American Comeback,” DeSantis wrote.
In a brief accompanying video, he leaned on his record as Florida’s governor.
“We held the line when freedom hung in the balance,” he said. “We showed that we can and must revitalize America.”
