To better understand how these rarities came about we need to turn the clock back to 1929, a gloomy era dominated by the Great Depression. A resourceful builder and contractor by trade called Arthur E Fritz reasoned that folks needed to enjoy inexpensive entertainment during these challenging times. He thereby purchased six ponies and created a small arena, allowing children to go for rides. With prices being reasonable, his new business was an instant hit.

This led him to brainstorm other ventures, such as selling ice cream and snacks, followed by a few more attractions and rides. They eventually morphed into an amusement park known as Kiddieland, which opened in the mid-1930s. Located in Melrose Park (near Chicago, Illinois), it continued expanding as the economy improved.
