Uganda’s homosexuality bill ‘an infringement of human rights’

This week saw Uganda pass its Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023, one of the harshest laws on the African continent. It was introduced in Parliament by ruling party legislator Asuman Basalirwa on March 9 and seeks to punish homosexuality with the death penalty.

Ugandan lawmakers hastily passed the bill on Tuesday evening, ordering harsh penalties for anyone who engages in same-sex activity.
