BIRTLEY BOYS had another day to remember when two of their boxers won the NAC Championships at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle.
The North East club had three winners last season and Jack Dryden was back to defend the 57kgs title.
The 20-year-old was a 4-1 split points winner over Edward Hardy (Highfields) after one of the best bouts of the day. Dryden took a count midway through the last as the tiring fighters stood toe-to-toe and they embraced at the final bell as the crowd cheered them for fighting their hearts out.
After a frantic opening minute or so, Dryden found his rhythm and there were cheers when he slipped Hardy’s lead and cracked him with a clean right hand to the chin on the counter and landed thumping body shots.
Hardy took the fight to Dryden at the start of the second but took more
