It’s exactly 10 years since the bornagain Brough Superior’s first allnew model was unvei led at the 2013 EICMA Milan Show. Since then, the nowadays French-based company has established an enviable reputation for design excellence and leading-edge engineering, which has resulted in its successful joint venture with the equal ly historic British brand, Aston Martin. This saw all 100 examples of the turbocharged AMB 001 sell out in a matter of weeks despite the €108,000 ($A177,000) pr ice tag, while at the same time Brough’s own products have acquired a healthy clientele of discerning owners across the globe, reported ly with a waiting list to join them.
Brough Superior CEO Thierry Henriette and his colleague Albert Castaigne have successfully relaunched the brand as a manufacturer of high-performance, high-quality but inevitably high-priced motorcycles which, despite their retrostyling, employ thoroughly modern technology and materials.
For the first time ever, the range of V-twin models now includes a dual-purpose model with potential off-road capabilit y, the Nefud street scrambler. It’s a derivative of the 2021 Lawrence two-seater (AMCN Vol 71 No 10) that’s turned out to be Brough Superior’s most popular (current) model, and the Nefud has now entered production at the eye-watering price of $118,000 plus on-road cocsts.
“The Nefud is fully offroad capable, with the correct tyres and detail revisions to the suspension,” Henriette says. “But just as with other companies producing high-performance street scramblers with knobby tyres, we know that 95 percent of our customers will use them primarily in city boulevards as chic transportation.
