EARLIER THIS YEAR marked a milestone birthday for me, as I turned over into the next decade of my life. As is often the case, I started to think about what I am up to and what I might want to do next. This can be described as a mid-life crisis for some, and perhaps there are different degrees of crisis, but for me it appears to have been a draw to beekeeping.

Ahead of the usual quips that seem to have haunted me since announcing this “crisis” – the birds and the bees – I will add that the opportunity arose when the site where I work has suddenly exploded withand three beehives, among others.
