Tales from the workshop: Maria’s Tribsa

CBG Workshop

To recap, Maria bought her Tribsa – a Triumph 6T Thunderbird-engined, BSA A10 frame with conical hubs, A10 gearbox and all-sorted other parts – in lockdown. It’s an old build, but kept going despite issues here and there. Eventually the valve guides shrunk, seizing onto the valves and moving in the head, necessitating a rebuild.

With the head off, the guides could be sorted, valves renewed or cleaned up and head refreshed. Inside, the high-compression pistons looked alright, as did the rings, but the barrels showed signs of a life, so were taken out 0.020in and lower compression pistons fitted to aid starting and give a broader power.
