As said before, though many engines have passed through my hands, this is my first old Brit; and there’s a lot to learn. Unfortunately, those who have learned over many years are not allowed to come round and help me, so it’s my turn – with maybe a little help...

After pressing out the valve guides last month only to find a Coke can being used to shim the worn guides in a worn head, I ordered a set of 0.010in (0.25mm) oversize guides to cure this. Back to BDK race engineering who had just stopped laughing at my ‘Coke can engine’ so they could ream out the head to accept
