OLD BIKES, EH? WELL, MIX OLD bikes with kids, two jobs, other projects and life and then they become a chore. After many a happy, if slightly frustrating ride, Maria’s was stood for months with a carburation issue, as we had to test various new bikes. Yes, I know, what a job. Hutch then fixed the carb issue by upping the main jet and adjusting the needle nicely. Then shortly after that, I blew it up – that didn’t go down well…

The valve guides had shrunk, tightening onto the valve stems, and, being loose in the head, moving up and down. With the head apart to diagnose the issue, it was decided to replace all the offending items in the head, and while there, get the barrels overbored and some new pistons and rings fitted to bring the compression back to pre-knackered amounts.
