Alan’s Lambretta TV175 Series 2

Alan Springall was an original Mod about town, living the fast life of the capital with exceptional taste and worshipping the Modernist Holy Trinity of clothes, music and scooters. But as the scene became commercialised, wilting and dying back until it eventually disappeared underground again, Alan’s career began to grow and he set off in a new direction.

HARROW – RIGHT AREA, WRONG SCHOOL!

Alan was born into the new optimistic post-war Britain in 1947, living in the nice area of Harrow, but attending a normal school. In 1964 Alan was 17 and was swept away by the Mod scene that had been growing for the last few years and was now in full bloom. He obviously needed a scooter and after a short search purchased an ex-commuter vehicle from a teacher.

It was a 1961 Lambretta Li150 Series 2 with a big screen on it. Although it was only about three years old at the time, it looked as if it had not been cared for and had endured a hard life. It cost him all of the £15 he’d saved up out of his Christmas money and paper round while still at school.
