Hamburgh with the lot

Mention the word Hamburgh and what springs to mind for many people is an image of the sensational Silver Spangled Hamburgh.

But there are other colour varieties as well: Gold Spangled, Silver and Gold Pencilled plus solid colours like black, white and blue. And you have the option of standard or bantam-sized birds.

Hamburgh fowl are best described as a tribe. While various members share the same name and a similar appearance they actually have very different origins.

The Spangled and solid-coloured varieties have an English background while the Pencilled varieties hail from the continent. We’ll probably never discover exactly how this came to be.
