Samsung is never shy when it comes to launching batches of products at the same time, and the Ultra is one of three when it comes to new Book3 laptops. You can also buy the convertible Pro 360 and a plain Book3 Pro, but the Ultra at the top of the range is a totally new design.

There are suitably heavyweight components to match its name. Samsung sent us the top-end model, with a Core i9 processor and GeForce RTX 4070 graphics that push it into gaming laptop territory, most notably the 2023 Razer Blade 16 (look out for our review next month). It also packs enough multi-threaded performance to make it a worthy alternative to the 16in MacBook Pro (see issue 342, p48).

I mention these two rivals because Samsung has clearly put an emphasis on slick dimensions as well as power. It’s both impressive and unusual to see such powerful components inside
