Telling tartan tales

There are up to 40 million members of the Scottish diaspora – people with Scottish ancestry, who for one reason or another are scattered across the world, from the USA to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Chile, among others.

Many of these people or their ancestors took a conscious decision to leave their homeland and set up home elsewhere, but often, people left Scotland as they had no other choice – forced from their ancestral lands by heartless landlords during the Highland Clearances or fleeing from anti-Catholic persecution.
