Weaker consumer spending puts more pressure on meat prices

South Africans continue to feel the pressure of rising food inflation, with that of meat increasing by 11,2% in January from the 9,7% seen in December 2022. On top of that, fuel prices increased at the beginning of March, and an electricity price hike was scheduled for April.
