ALLOTMENT PRICE HIKE

We have just received letters from our borough council to inform us our plot rents will be rising by 200% from April 1, 2023. The current rent we pay per pole is £12.50, rising to £37.50. Our average plots sizes are three poles at £37.50, rising to £112.50 and a full 10-pole plot would now cost us £375, forcing tenants to relinquish their plots.

The borough council's reasoning for this increase is “that allotment rent should be brought in-line with other discretionary council run services” and “the revised allotment rent also takes account of increased costs, such as utilities”.
