Security on sites
Friends of ours have a static caravan in Worcestershire. Recently, whilst asleep in their caravan, they heard a noise that woke them, but passed it off as their neighbours getting up very early for a car boot sale.
However, they discovered later that their caravan had been broken into, their car keys were taken and their car driven off. Scary.
It transpires that there was no entrance/exit barrier at their site, so the villains had a free passage out.
I have attended a few sites where no barriers exist, though most do have them.
For the potential villain, it is quite easy pickings, once they gain access to the car.
I think this is a subject that campsites ought to think very seriously about. I think there's little excuse not to fit barriers, as I have seen some very small sites with them.
I think that, even when on sites that have them fitted, if you are out for the day and not using your car/motorhome, take the barrier pass with you and the vehicle keys.
Leave nothing to chance.
If villains are brave enough to break into your property whilst you are in there sleeping, and you have all the security equipment fitted, and you take all the obvious security precautions, they will indeed try anything. My advice is never underestimate them.

Deposit security
I was sorry to read Mike Powell's letter concerning booking deposits for Caravan and Motorhome Club sites (February, p1O).
I completely disagree. I think the introduction of advance booking deposits is excellent; for the first time proper pitch availability is possible. I am sure the Club will deal sympathetically with genuine reasons for cancellations.
The other big club (Camping and Caravanning Club) has been doing the same for some years.
