CHALLENGING the lack of racial diversity 2005’s Live8 concert – “I do feel it’s very Cpatronising as an African artist that more of us aren’t – Baaba soon found himself allied with Damon Albarn, who was similarly critical of the lineup. Albarn went on to found Africa Express and Maal was an early star of these ongoing, intimate, freewheeling collaborations, where African and western musicians played together in venues from Glastonbury to Kenya.
