A 55TH ANNIVERSARY VISIT TO NORTHAMPTON

As any regular reader will know, I’m not much into the journalistic trope of anniversaries, but I’ll make an exception in the case of NAR. Due to the vagaries of magazine production, you are probably reading this April/May edition in March – which neatly coincides with the founding of Northampton Auto Rads in March 1967 -55 years to the month!

THE BACK STORY

Before the beginning, company founder Don Goodwin worked for a Northampton based radiator reconditioning company called ‘Frank Preston Radiators’. This provided him with a thorough grounding in the ‘Black Art’ of radiator repair and manufacture, a pursuit for which no textbooks exist. A man of ambition, Don found himself in receipt of a £500 profit from the proceeds of a house sale and decided to invest it in setting up his own business. A premises located in central Northampton (at 3B Regent Square) was purchased and the eponymous company commenced trading. Initially Don WAS the staff with wife Gillian handling the paperwork.
