Confessions of a late beauty convert

Well, this is a first for me. I’ve never in all my 25 years as a journalist written about beauty, and I’ve never really worn makeup. In fact, on the odd occasions I do wear a full face of makeup (usually a television appearance), everyone goes: ‘Oh, you look like a panda!’ – or ‘Wow you look different!’

I’m all for pushing back on the depressing narrative about ageing; accepting who we are in midlife, becoming the women we want to be and not seeing ourselves through a male lens which values women for ‘fanciability’ and fecundity.
