Launched last year, the StreetCar scheme from Motorsport UK was not really a revolution. What it was designed to do was to open the wider public’s eyes to the existing forms of motorsport that are accessible to the person on the street.
The prospect of taking part in any form of motor racing can be clouded by the perception that the bank balance needs to be a deep as the determination to get behind the wheel. But there are myriad avenues of competition that require nothing more than a road car, a free RS Clubman licence from Motorsport UK and a few pointers from those in the know.
Anyone with a road-going car can measure themselves in competition in autotests, autosolos, trials and untimed cross-country events. For those who enjoy getting the better of a map, there are also challenges such as touring assemblies, treasure hunts, navigational scatters and rallies, 12-Car Rally events and Targa rallies to consider.
