The greatest cycling idea

When a cycling hall of fame devoted to great historic innovations is finally opened, I know which invention I’d nominate for the title of ‘Greatest of All Time’.

It won’t be disc brakes, pneumatic tyres or the derailleur – condemned by Tour de France founder Henri Desgrange as ‘artifice’ though embraced by the wider cycling community as a tool to make cycling more inclusive.
