Last year was a good one for Saudi Arabian football. The Under-23 team won the Asian Championship for the first time, scoring13 and conceding none as they defeated hosts Uzbekistan in the Tashkent final. The biggest story, however, seemed clear; the unforgettable victory over eventual winners Argentina in November that kick-started the World Cup into life. But then, on the penultimate day of the year, the Saudi Professional League made headlines around the world.

That is because Al Nassr FC was soon advertising for the world’s first Ronaldo correspondent.
