HIDDEN TREASURE
The medieval village of Montepulciano looms like a citadel on the hill, surrounded by patchwork fields of green and gold where olive trees mingle with centuries-old vines. I’m in the heart of wine country – the Val d’Orcia in Tuscany – and it takes a leap of faith to turn down a dirt trail off the main road. For five minutes, the car lurches towards a stone farmhouse in the distance, as dust fans out behind us through rolling hills, resembling the getaway scene in an arthouse movie. It’s a little out of the way, but by the time we reach Lupaia, I’m not disappointed.
A charming fairytale scene awaits.
